RESOURCE / RETIREMENT

From plan selection to the first payroll.

A practical discussion checklist for employer onboarding, employee education, and implementation coordination.

Agree on the scope before the start date.

Name the employer contact, provider contact, payroll lead, and any specialists. Put responsibilities and milestones in writing. Confirm what Consilium Plus support includes, the provider’s contracted services, fees, and which decisions or ongoing tasks remain with the employer.

Prepare the information and handoffs.

Ask the provider which business and employee information it requires, who will validate it, and how it should be transferred securely. Avoid sending sensitive payroll or employee records in an introductory email. Confirm eligibility and plan details with the responsible provider and professional advisers.

Work backward from the first contribution.

Confirm the setup timetable, payroll connection, enrollment period, employee communications, and any required notices with the responsible parties. Test the handoff according to the provider’s process. Agree who will notice and resolve missing or incorrect information.

Give employees an understandable introduction.

Explain the purpose of the benefit, how enrollment works, where to find plan materials, how to ask questions, and what happens next. General education should be clearly separated from individual investment, tax, or financial-planning advice. Make the explanation accessible to the actual workforce.

Confirm completion, then define ongoing ownership.

Check that the agreed onboarding steps and initial payroll process are complete. Record the contacts for later questions, the review schedule, and owners of recurring tasks. Provider involvement does not automatically remove employer oversight duties. A checklist supports coordination; it is not a substitute for plan documents or required professional review.

General educational information reviewed September 10, 2026. Confirm current rules and your circumstances with the appropriate source and qualified professionals.
